Safe Schools Tip Line

Our staff works to make schools safe and caring places; we encourage students and parents to continue using these normal methods to report concerns to adults at home and in schools. The SAFE SCHOOLS TIPLINE at 425.551.7393 is not to replace this healthy and open communication. Still, we know that when students become aware of unsafe people or situations, it can be very difficult for some to report as they are fearful or feel pressure from others to keep things secret. We want students to help us keep their schools safe, and to break the “code of silence” with respect to matters that can impact the safety of their schools.

If you or your students were to suspect or become aware of any students or adults in a school who are planning or acting in any unsafe way, please let us know. This includes, but is not limited to, the use or possession of drugs, knives, guns, and/or threats to injure, bully, or assault others. If you or your students are not comfortable talking directly with staff at the school level, use the SAFE SCHOOLS TIPLINE at 425.551.7393. It is a fast, effective, and safe way to let us know about the unsafe situation and not worry about being identified as the source of the information.

The SAFE SCHOOLS TIPLINE is on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and checked twice during each school day. “Tips” will be referred to school or law enforcement authorities. When a person calls the “TIPLINE” they will hear the following:

“Thank you for calling the Safe Schools Tipline. If this is an emergency, please hang up and dial 911 now. To report a concern about safety at one of the schools in the Edmonds School District, please listen carefully to the rest of this message and wait for the tone to leave your message. After you hear the tone, state clearly and slowly the name of the school, a description of the unsafe situation, and provide the names or descriptions of the persons involved to the best of your ability. You don’t need to have all the information, but the better “tip” you provide, the better we can follow up and help keep your school safe. Thank you for your call” (tone) ……….

Anyone can call if they hear of or are concerned about a child hurting themselves or others. It’s on the school district website. Safe schools alert!

There is a harassment intimidation and bullying form too (this is different than the emergency tip line). This is most often used in middle school and high school, not so much in elementary schools.
