This outlines our procedures at Sherwood for drop off and pick up, parking for school events and procedures for parking during the day. Please read this carefully!
There are two separate parking lots at Sherwood. The front parking lot, which is accessed on 106th street (down by 228th St.) will be for families. This will be the entrance where families will enter to drop off and pick up their child(ren). You will exit out the driveway closest to the school. This is an exit only driveway.
The second parking lot is accessed off of 228th St. This will be for busses and staff parking only.
There are four scenarios to address: parking for school events, drop off in the morning, parking during the day, and pick up in the afternoon. These are addressed in order:
Parking for School Events
When we have a school event, you may:
- park in any open parking place in either parking lot
- park under the covered area on the playground (when the gate is open)
- parallel park in the following
areas:
- on the right side of the driveway on the way into the family parking lot
- along both sides of the island in the front parking lot
Please do not park in the fire lane in the front parking lot, which is the lane closest to the building. This lane is only used during pick up and drop off where families are still in their vehicles.
Morning Drop Off
When you come to drop your child off in the morning, you will enter the parking lot off 106th St., down by 228th St. You may drop your child off on the curbside or along the island. In both scenarios, your child will get out of the car on the driver’s side. We will have staff and patrols out in the parking lot at 9:05am to help direct traffic flow and walk students off the island.
If you would like to park and walk your child to class, you may park in an empty parking space in the front lot or in the driveway on the way to the drop off area. Please do not park in the back parking lot, which is only for busses and staff parking. If you park and walk your child to class, please use the crosswalks to cross the parking lot.
Parking During the Day
If you are at Sherwood after drop off and before pick up, you may park in the front parking lot or parallel park on either side of the island in the family parking lot. Please do not park in the fire lane.
Afternoon Pick-Up
Families will enter the lower driveway along 106th Ave. to pick up their child(ren). There will be two lanes where you will wait. You will be waiting in our SW parking lot instead of on 106th Ave. Some students will be picked up on the island and some will be picked up curbside.
Students with last names A-K will go to the island to be picked up and students with last names L-Z will be picked up on the curbside.
If your child’s last name is A-K, please cue up in the right lane to go to the island. If you child’s last name is L-Z, please cue up in the left lane to pick up your child curbside. When you are waiting in the left lane (the curbside lane) you will be waiting in your car in the fire lane; please do not leave your vehicle.
We will bring your child to you! Stay in your car and move forward when the line moves forward. If you get your child before the person in front of you, you may carefully exit the waiting line (pull out to the right) and go around the waiting cars. It is my expectation that every person drives slowly and carefully in our parking lot! We will have a lot of students and parents crossing at crosswalks and getting into cars. Watch carefully when you pull out of line!
When you exit, cars in the left lane will turn left out of the parking lot and cars in the right lane will turn right.
I encourage you to utilize the pickup line, as it is a much quicker process. It helps if you come to school closer to 3:50pm, rather than waiting in line for a long time. If you would like to park and walk to pick up your child, you may park in an any empty parking space in the front lot or in the parking spaces in the driveway on the way to the drop off area (if you are here early enough). There is no parallel parking during pick up or drop off times. Please do not park in the back parking lot, which is only for busses and staff parking. If you park and walk your child to class, please use the crosswalks to cross the parking lot.
Christi’s Expectations
I ask that you bring your patience with you and expect that there will be some waiting time during pickup. When you are in our parking lot, I expect that you are driving slowly and watching carefully for students and adults. Road rage has no place in our parking lot; go slow and be courteous to other drivers, our Sherwood staff and our children.
