Sherwood PE & SPORTS News!
Here’s what’s coming up!
There are lots of opportunities for your athlete to be active in 2020!ULTIMATE FRISBEE LAST WEEK!!A huge thank you to former National Ultimate Frisbee Coach & UW Ultimate coach, Kyle Weisbrod, who spent all last week in our gym instructing our athletes on the sport of Ultimate Frisbee. He donated all the frisbees he used for his clinic to Sherwood. Ask your student about it – they loved having him there – so did we! Kyle will be starting a “Sherwood Ultimate Frisbee Team” in the Spring after our Rugby season ends in March. More info to come. Thanks so much Kyle!
UPCOMING IN PE
Jan 16th-24th – “THE PACER TEST” – this is a fitness test we do 3 times per year to assess and work on our cardio fitness. The goal is for each athlete to improve on their previous score (how many times they can run back and forth to the cadence of the test). Please be sure to have your athletes come prepared (as for every PE) with proper tennis shoes and mostly, a great attitude! If your student cannot run for health reasons – please send in a note with them to excuse them from the test. Parents are always welcome to join their student in PE and take the test as well!
SCOOTERS – we have 30 scooters/helmets coming to the gym soon. We will go over proper bike helmet fit and students are welcome to bring in their helmets so we can make sure they are wearing them the proper way.
BATTLE SHIP – a great team building game where we assess character and teamwork. Ask your athlete what “character” means – hopefully they will respond with “Doing the Right Thing When No One Else is Watching” – a main theme in our PE classes and in life!
EXPERT JUMP ROPE INSTRUCTION – Jenni McCloughan – a former PE teacher and District head of PE in Edmonds, will give her expertise in Long Rope jumping.
APRIL 13th-24th – “WHEELS WEEK” – Students are invited to bring in their own wheels to ride or use bikes that are provided by Cascade Bicycle club for 2 weeks. They may also bring in roller blades/skates to use during recess.
PARENTS WITH TALENTS?? – We would love to have you come in and show off a special talent you have – your student would love it as well!
